Home heating and cooling on the high plains

Furnace and air conditioning work, replacements and duct repairs for houses in Thornton, Northglenn, Westminster and north Denver.

Heating

Furnaces, and the checks nobody sees

Most winter calls here come down to ignition, a flame sensor, a pressure switch, a limit tripping on poor airflow, or a blower that is no longer moving what it should. We work through them in order rather than swapping the expensive part first.

Every combustion visit includes the safety side: flue condition, draught, and any sign of a cracked heat exchanger. If something is unsafe we say so plainly and shut it down, whatever else was planned that day.

Cooling

Dry heat, thin air, and what that means for cooling

Colorado summers are hot but dry, which changes what cooling equipment has to do and what it does well.

  • Less moisture to removeCompared with a humid climate, more of the cooling goes into temperature and less into drying the air. Sizing and fan speed should reflect that.
  • Thinner air moves less heatThe same fan at the same speed carries less mass of air at this elevation, so airflow settings from a sea-level table are not right here.
  • Evaporative systemsWhere a swamp cooler is already fitted we service it honestly — including saying when it is not going to cope with the week ahead.
  • Condenser conditionCottonwood and dust load a coil quickly in June. A blocked coil looks exactly like an undersized system on the hottest afternoon.

Ducts

The part of the system nobody quotes on

Split levels, finished basements and additions leave duct systems that were never designed as a whole. The result is a house with two rooms that are always wrong and a furnace that trips on its limit switch in January.

We measure static pressure and airflow before proposing anything, because a new furnace on a starved duct system is an expensive way to keep the same problem.

Replacement

What we work out before quoting

  • The heat loadFrom the house — area, insulation, glass and orientation — at this elevation.
  • The derateCombustion equipment loses input with altitude. The nameplate figure is not the figure you get.
  • What the ducts can carryMeasured, not assumed. It often decides the equipment rather than the other way round.
  • The commissioning numbersTemperature rise, gas pressure and static pressure, written down when we leave.
